Key Facts: Destinations of Leavers 2005/06
Highlights of the latest information on the destinations of students six months after leaving a London Higher member institution in 2005/06 include:
- 70% of over 50,000 full time and part time students were employed or engaged in further studies;
- 70% of all post-graduates found employment, followed by 50% of undergraduates taking a first degree and 40% of undergraduates taking other courses;
- 90% of students were employed in London, the South East or in the East of England;
- Undergraduates who had studied full time were more likely to continue as full time students for further studies, while part time students were more likely to combine work and study if taking further qualifications.

Employer Engagement Projects
A Strategic Approach to Employer Engagement for HE in London
Following a successful joint submission made in conjunction with the Learning and Skills Network and London First, London Higher has received funding from HEFCE to take forward the first phase of a major employer engagement project in and for London. The research is being undertaken by Grant Thornton and the work will comprise three research projects managed by London Higher:
(i) understanding the demand from employers for higher level skills (HLS) in London;
(ii) understanding the supply of HLS provision in London;
(iii) strategic solutions to the issues identified in (i) and (ii).

Employer Engagement Network
London Higher has received a grant from the HEFCE allocation to Higher Education Regional Associations (HERAs) for a two year project to establish a network for Employer Engagement Contacts (EECs) in London.
The EECs will be nominated by London Higher members and the network will provide EECs with specialist support and advice, including networking events.

London Higher Member's Area
A password protected Member's Area was launched in August 2007 and is now accessible by the London Higher Board, heads of institutions and nominated Membership Engagement co-ordinators.
Documents to be posted in early 2008 include Economic Impact Studies of London HEIs using the UUK model. Information already available in the Member's Area includes a report on Research Council funding and a Discussion Note on the age profile of women academics in London.

insight magazine from Study London
insight: London’s quarterly academic magazine
A new magazine for international students has been launched as part of the Study London project to promote the capital to international students. The insight magazine provides an extensive look at the breadth, depth and diversity of London’s higher education, uncovering the research, courses, people and successes that make London the world’s knowledge capital.
The launch edition will reach over 25,000 international students and features four broad positioning articles that establish London as a leader in key sectors; finance & business, the creative arts, science & technology and health & public policy.
Future editions will feature the latest news from London’s institutions together with in-depth articles on a variety of subjects from entrepreneurship and stem cell research to fashion and dentistry.

PODIUM Networking Event
PODIUM is the Further and Higher Education Unit for the 2012 Games. On 28th November, the London division of PODIUM held a networking, consultation and prospecting event titled "London takes to the Podium" at the Rich Mix Cultural Centre in Bethnal Green.
The event brought together the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (LOCOG), the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) and the London Development Agency (LDA).
Delegates heard from a range of speakers including triple Paralympic Gold medallist swimmer, Giles Long, on the potential opportunities for the FE and HE sectors to engage with the world's biggest sporting event and to secure a lasting legacy beyond 2012.
During breakout sessions delegates gave their recommendations on how the education sector can enhance the current social and economic development strategies around the legacy of the Games, which focused around the five PODIUM thematic strands: Community Engagement, Skills and Employability, Business and Enterprise, Cultural Olympiad and Active Participation in Sport.

Study London in Washington, USA.
NAFSA, the largest educational fair in the World, will take place in Washington in May 2008. London Higher, in association with the Mayor’s Office and Visit London, is proposing to host an invitation-only "London reception" to promote London as a Study Abroad destination to US educational representatives.
We will be contacting institutions who regularly attend NAFSA in the coming weeks to see who would like to be involved but if you are worried that you may be missed out or would like more information, then please contact Kevin McCarthy.
