International Students in London

London still the number one choice for international students

There were 89,955 international students studying in London during 2006/07 according to the latest HESA statistics. This represents a 5% increase in the capital in the last academic year.  Fast facts:

  • International students now account for 23% of the total London student population;
  • London still has more international students than both New York (65,885) and Sydney (37,515);
  • The economic impact of international students studying in London is £1.5 billion per annum.

The Study London campaign has already attracted almost 100,000 students to www.studylondon.ac.uk this academic year.

Website design and content for Study London has recently been refreshed to build on this success. Students can now search for courses easier, download the latest edition of insight magazine, read the latest news from the sector and contact other students via the Study London Facebook group.

London Student Housing Conference: 30th June

How can Universities ensure that they get the best deal for their students? image of computer searching

The last couple of years have seen a large growth in the number of organisations looking to develop purpose built student accommodation in London.

This conference will look at some of the reasons why student housing has become such a popular investment and why London is such an attractive option.

Although the event is aimed at developers, organisers will also be inviting University Business Officers, Accommodation Officers, NUS and other Student Union representatives.

A range of seminars will cover subjects from accreditation through to “studentification”. The aim is to encourage dialogue, networking and partnership between all the relevant parties.

More details of what is being planned will be posted on the University of London Housing Services website from 6th May at http://housing.london.ac.uk/cms/housing-events.html
