Department of Education

King's College London, University of London

King's College London

King’s College London is one of England’s oldest and most prestigious university institutions. A multi-faculty research-led university college based in the heart of London and one of the two founding colleges of the University of London, King’s has over 21,000 students.

King’s is ranked as one of the world’s top 25 universities and offers a wide range of subjects across nine Schools of Study: Arts & Humanities; Biomedical & Health Sciences; the Dental Institute; Law; Medicine; Nursing & Midwifery; Physical Sciences & Engineering, the Institute of Psychiatry and Social Science & Public Policy.

Our current relationships with London schools
Our current relationships with London schools are principally managed through the Outreach and Events Team and the International Team (UK International Schools). Both teams are based within the central Marketing Department at King’s.

Outreach and Gifted & Talented (G&T)
The team delivers a wide range of events and activities designed to raise the aspirations and attainment of young people, primarily in years 9-13. Activities include:

• Campus Visits
• Taster Days
• IAG Sessions
• Student Shadowing
• Mentoring
• Summer Schools
• Masterclasses
• Health Fairs
• Careers Advisers and Teacher Conference.

In addition to these activities, we are happy to respond to the specific needs of our local schools and colleges.

We co-ordinate and deliver our programme of outreach events and activities through the Gifted & Talented/Aimhigher Partnerships Aspire and WECAN. We also work directly with boroughs, schools and FE colleges on King’s specific G&T projects.

King’s is involved in national schemes including Aimhigher Associates Scheme and the TDA Student Associate Scheme. We are the lead HE institution for the South East London Lifelong Learning Network. The Network’s main role is to help vocational learners to progress to and through higher education.

Events & Schools Liaison
The team offers a UK-wide programme of events and activities for students in years 12 & 13.  The programme includes:

• Open Days
• HE Fairs
• Parents Evenings
• School Visits
• UCAS Conventions
• Subject Specific Events
• University of London Taster Courses
• Campus Tours.

Contacting our academic departments
We are supported in our work by the College's academic and administrative departments, as well as King's students and other outreach practitioners. The Outreach & Events Team (see above) is the first point of contact for all enquiries.
