London South Bank University

London South Bank University (LSBU) has a long academic heritage going back to 1892. With over 23,500 students, LSBU is one of the largest universities in London with a distinctive and diverse student profile coming from the local community, across the UK and countries around the world.
LSBU offers a wide ranging portfolio, which maintains a focus on employability and professional values. LSBU maintains an absolute commitment to access for all who can benefit from professional education, offering courses at all levels and with flexible study options which enable both part-time and full-time study.
Widening participation, particularly among disadvantaged groups, is an important LSBU policy from extensive outreach work with local schools and colleges, to partnerships with local employers and involvement with local projects.
Our current relationships with London schools
London South Bank University has excellent relationships with London schools. The Schools and Colleges Outreach Team, which includes two London Engineering Project officers, works closely with our Aimhigher Partnership schools. The University is part of the Aspire South East London, and South London Aimhigher Partnerships and the SELLN, our local Lifelong Learning Network.
The Schools and Colleges Outreach Team works with lecturers across the University to put on a range of taster days, projects and summer schools which aim to widen participation (visit www.lsbu.ac.uk/wpu for details). Our student ambassadors are central to the communication of our mission. Faculty-wide progression agreements support aspiration raising activities by guaranteeing places to students applying to particular courses. The delivery of Year one units by university staff in local schools and colleges blurs the boundary between level 3 and 4 as well as encouraging an exchange of professional information and expertise.
The London South Bank University’s HEFCE match funded summer school, which involves 30 academics, is held annually in July for 150 year 10s who last year came from 40 schools in 17 different London boroughs.
