Queen Mary, University of London

Queen Mary, University of London, is one of London and the UK’s leading research-focused higher education (HE) institutions, and one of the largest colleges of the University of London.
Our 3,000 staff deliver world class degree programmes and reseach across a wide range of subjects in Humanities, Social Sciences and Laws, in Medicine and Dentistry and in Science and Engineering.
Queen Mary was ranked 13th in the UK in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) according to the Times Higher Education, and our staff members have been honoured by election to Fellowships of the Royal Society, the British Academy, the Royal Academy of Medical Science and the Royal Academy of Engineering.
Queen Mary is unique amongst inner London's universities in being able to offer a completely integrated residential campus, with a 2,000-bed award-winning Student Village on our Mile End site, and we offer a strong and diverse environment to our 15,000 students.
Our current relationships with London schools
Our Education Liaison and Access Office is the main point of contact for schools, colleges and careers companies. It provides an extensive education liaison service, and coordinates the College's widening participation activities. Services include the main College Open Day, normally held in late March or early April, campus tours for prospective applicants, a programme of talks and visits for schools and colleges, “On Q” the college newsletter for schools and colleges, and a biennially-updated Teachers' Guide to HE.
We also organise an extensive programme of widening participation outreach activities, and we are the lead partner in the London East Thames Gateway Aimhigher Partnership. You can find a full list of our activities with schools and colleges at:

Queen Mary is a co-sponsor (with the Drapers' Company) of the new Drapers Academy school on Harold Hill in Havering. St Paul's Way school in Tower Hamlets is becoming a National Challenge Trust school, and we have supported this by taking on the responsibilities of lead Trust partner and by participating in the proposed Project Faraday at the school to create a centre of science excellence.
We host an annual event during National Science and Engineering Week at which school children are invited to take part in science and engineering displays and talks. We also have a Centre of the Cell which is a children's education centre based in working medical laboratories.
