Rose Bruford College of Theatre & Performance

Image of Rose Bruford College of Theatre & Performance

Rose Bruford College is a specialist drama college sited in Sidcup, south east London. It has about 1000 students organised into three schools (outlined below). With a long tradition of innovative work, the college specialises in looking at theatre and performance from a range of cultural and artistic perspectives, and in preparing students from a wide range of backgrounds for work in the Creative Industries. The work is supported by extensive research, including the Stanislavski and Clive Barker Centres; and extensive overseas links, primarily in European centres and the USA. It has two licensed theatres: the 320 seat Rose Theatre in the round; and the 100 seat Barn Theatre; and a series of specialist studio spaces.

Our current relationships with London schools
The Outreach department acts as a broker between the Schools and College external programmes, and also organises its own specialist visits and workshops. These are often run by emerging artists, who may be recent graduates, or experienced student ambassadors.

The Colleges three schools
The College organises a series of events during the year, often associated with college productions.  Its event programme and outreach activity is listed currently on the college’s research site Theatre Futures. We are particularly interested in working with schools to develop a broader profile to the technical courses.

In addition the College is a partner in the Creative Way Lifelong Learning Network for the Thames Gateway, and has a number of partnerships with organisations such as Arts Awards (we are an assessment centre) and with Young People’s Theatre companies. At the moment we are supporting two 14-19 Creative Diploma groups in Bexley and Greenwich.

The College has three schools: the School of Performance; the School of Design, Management and Technical Arts; and the School of Graduate and Professional Studies.  Performance comprises two vocational programmes, in Acting and Actor Musicianship, and two practical programmes that look at contemporary European and America practice.  Design, Management and Technical Arts covers a range of specialist programmes in Costume Production, Lighting Control, Lighting Design, Performance Sound, Scenic Arts, Stage Management, and Theatre Design.  Programmes are quite wide in their content: some include areas such as carnival and puppetry in their programmes.
