Royal Veterinary College, University of London

The Royal Veterinary College is the largest, and oldest, veterinary school in the UK.
We have approximately 1500 undergraduate students working for degrees in Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary Science and Veterinary Nursing (including Foundation Degree in VN), and a large number of postgraduate students researching in medical and scientific areas. The College has campuses in Camden Town and near Potters Bar in Hertfordshire.
Our current relationships with London schools
Our work with schools is run both through our Education Liaison department and the Widening Participation Unit and the two work very closely together. As a specialist college with a national and international remit we have students from all parts of the UK, mainland Europe and the USA.
Naturally, however, as a London-based institution we focus a great deal of our school work and particularly widening participation activity on the city’s 33 boroughs. Local schools visit the College on a weekly basis, we target London boroughs for summer schools and we are developing Saturday schools.
Schools liaison / Widening Participation Unit
We offer a range of activities for both primary and secondary level. These include Masterclasses, animal workshops, anatomy quizzes, Saturday schools, summer schools, open afternoons and open days, student shadowing, student ambassadors, IAG.
All our work has a strong science focus as that is the basis for all veterinary study.
We have extensive links across London with Aimhigher and Gifted & Talented and also work with Hertfordshire Aimhigher. We are engaged with the work on Fair Access to the Professions.
We run a “Gateway Programme” which is a Year 0 specifically aimed at the Widening Participation Cohort.
All the above activities can be accessed via the College’s website:
