Research Council success rates

Data on grant applications, success rates and amounts of funding is issued regularly by Research Councils. Regional analyses were done on 2007/08 data for six of the seven Councils.

Higher education institutions and research organisations in London obtained over £242 million, with the largest amounts from the Medical Research Council (43%) and the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (37%).

Summary reports on grant success rates for each of the Research Councils can be downloaded from the Factsheets webpage.

HERA Barometer

The HERA Barometer aims to provide Government and other national stakeholders with current information on how the higher education sector is responding to the economic downturn and to monitor any changes in provision and demand of services involving universities and higher education colleges.

HEFCE is compiling regular reports from all of the English HERAs (Higher Education Regional Associations; London Higher is London Region’s HERA).

Two reports have been issued so far and two further reports are due to be released in October and December this year.

School and HE links in London

Vision for London graphic

In August the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) approved the recommendations in the School and Higher Education Links in London (SHELL) delivery plan and awarded London Higher a grant to run the SHELL project from 2009 to 2011

Reports in Member's Area

The following reports have recently been posted in the Member's Area:

1) Times Higher student experience survey 2009:
Analyses were carried out on 22 parameters to determine which ones were related to high scores for HE institutions participating in the survey.

2) HEFCE HE-Business and Communities Interaction survey 2007/08:
Summary charts comparing London with other UK regions on sources of income, knowledge transfer activities (e.g. spin-outs, patents, returns on IP investment) and social, cultural and community events.
