Royal Academy of Music, University of London

The Royal Academy of Music’s impact on musical life is inestimable. Its alumni permeate today’s global music profession, including iconic names like Rattle, Birtwistle and Elton John. It attracts talented students from over fifty countries, drawn by its renowned teachers, rich artistic culture, unrivalled calendar of events and superb collections.
Open Academy
The Academy's mission has always been to provide musical training at the highest level. Open Academy expands the 'market' for this training beyond enrolled Academy students and out into the fullest range of society - challenging preconceptions of what music conservatoires do. Academy students also benefit directly by engaging in innovative education projects. Our mission is to bring music to life, with and for the wider community, through the process of training our own students.
Our current relationships with London schools
We engage with several primary schools in Westminster and Camden in addition to schools from other boroughs. Our Music in Community programmes for undergraduates and postgraduates give students the opportunity to work in various settings in educational and creative music workshops.
In 2008-9, Open Academy worked with a total of 3097 participants. These were drawn from three early years settings, 17 primary schools (including one SEN school), and two secondary schools, as well as participants from family events.
