About the event
Following the recent publication of the EHRC report on racism in universities and the (largely critical) media responses, London Higher is gathering together heads of our member institutions to look at the picture, nationally and regionally, and consider data specific to the capital, identify London-specific nuances, and begin to discuss ways in which HEIs can and should be responding to these. With London’s distinctive student and academic profile as well as population demographics, there is significance in and benefit to exploring, and seeking ways of addressing, these issues as a London collaboration.
This event gives members of the senior teams within London Higher’s membership the opportunity not only to share up-to-date information and research to address the London picture, but also to discuss together the common challenges for London’s HEIs, taking into account not only findings from the EHRC and other recent reports, but also the responses to these. We will be joined by Elizabeth Bowles, Head of Inquiries at the Equality and Human Rights Commission, and Amatey Doku, Consultant with the NOUS Group and former Deputy President of the NUS, who played a lead role in the UUK project resulting in the #ClosingTheGap report addressing the BAME attainment gap.
Attendance at this private roundtable discussion is strictly limited, and by invitation only.
